HARMONIUM’S 2026-27 SEASON

For Dr. Anne Matlack’s 40th anniversary at Harmonium, she created a season combining her favorite neglected gems, modern compositions and premieres, and well-known classic works. This is a season you cannot miss: the combination of 100 auditioned voices together, performances in surround sound, features with our Chamber Singers, highlights including our talented soloists and instrumentalists, gorgeous resonant spaces, and the community that brings this all together.

THE RISK OF BIRTH

A Mystic Holiday Concert featuring Brass Quartet
Saturday, December 12 at 7:30pm and Sunday, December 13 at 3pm
at the Presbyterian Church in Morristown (57 E Park Pl, Morristown, NJ)

Featuring Pinkham’s Christmas Cantata and other works with brass quartet, as well as Harmonium’s trademark mix of a diverse array of composers from Gabrieli to the New Jersey premiere of Tara Mack’s The Risk of Birth. Other composers include Josquin, Ginny Johnston, Joel Thompson, Ellen Voth, Rosephanye Powell, Benjie Ellen Schiller, and more! Together, these works explore what it means to choose love, hope, and wonder in a world longing for peace.

In honor of Dr. Anne’s 40th anniversary with Harmonium, she takes the podium to lead her favorite piece. This thrilling compilation of the best of the old (Renaissance) and the new (Baroque) has textures ranging from intimate motets to grand fanfares, echo duets to eight part choruses, and Gregorian chant to operatic virtuoso lines. This one-day-only event features Harmonium in collaboration with Music in the Somerset Hills - lead by Stephen Sands who also lends his warm tenor voice to our concert - the period instrument magic of The Sebastians, and many incredible soloists from Harmonium.

WORK AROUND THE WORLD

Our select 24-voice ensemble takes us on a journey around the world with songs about mining, farming, weaving and helping! This varied theme will bring us styles as diverse as Renaissance motets and Brazilian and Japanese folksongs.

Is singing our sanctuary? How can we create community for each other? Many composers from Abbie Betinis to Stephen Hatfield, along with our own Emerging Composer in Residence Laurel Luke Christensen, explore this in powerful song. We also celebrate the milestone 30th anniversary of our High School Choral Competition Contest.
