Why we're unique - Outreach
An important part of Harmonium's mission is to foster an appreciation of the Choral Art within the community. While that may sound somewhat lofty and vague, we realize the difference music has made in our lives and we want to share that experience. We find it both important and rewarding to concentrate our outreach efforts toward students in the primary and secondary school years. Harmonium is also a registered New Jersey Professional Development Provider for our members who are teachers. We also seek opportunities to serve the community, particularly in ways that promote tolerance and multicultural understanding. We have participated in benefit concerts in conjunction with such organizations as the Annual AIDS Walkathon in Morristown, the AIDS Residence Coalition of Morris County, the Morris Museum, the First Presbyterian Church in New Vernon and St. Barnabas Medical Center. We have contributed toward restoring the pipe organ and providing a ramp for wheelchair access at one of our concert venues. We continue to make large-type and braille editions of our programs available at major concerts. If you are interested in any of the above activities and wish to know more, please contact us.
