How You Fit In - Audition
2012 Auditions are by appointment at a mutually convenient time with the director. In general, there are an extremely limited number of openings for excellent singers with good sight reading skills. Reservations for an audition time are required and may be made through email to Dr. Anne Matlack, director@harmonium.org. Auditions will be held in the choir room at Grace Church, Madison, between August 22 and Sept. 8 and will take about 15-20 minutes each. The singer will be led through some standard vocalizations to test range, and then some ear-training and sight-singing on upcoming repertoire. A short prepared aria, art song, hymn, folk song or the like is welcome but not required. There are a limited number of spots (all voice parts, but more
in tenor!). We are only accepting strong musicians who are good
sight readers. We rehearse on Sunday nights at Grace Lutheran
Church, 65 East Main Street in Mendham beginning Sept. 9. Those who wish
to sing as part of our tour to Greece and Turkey in 2013 should audition now. Auditions for membership in Harmonium take place in late August through early September of each year. Depending on the needs of the group, a very small number of auditions may be heard at other times of the year.
This year Harmonium looks
forward
to celebrating Dr. Matlack's 25th Year Anniversary
as Artistic
Director of Harmonium with three major concerts –
held on Dec. 8th at 8 p.m. & Dec.
9th at 3 p.m.; March 2nd at 8 p.m. & March 3rd at 3
p.m.; and June 1st & 2nd, both at 7:30 p.m., as well as special
appearances throughout the
year. This season's repertoire ranges from Mozart to
Monteverdi, Barber to
Whitacre. All soloists are taken from within the chorus’s
100-voice membership,
over one third of whom are professional musicians and/or
music educators. In addition, Harmonium
is planning an exciting concert tour
to Greece and Turkey in
July 2013 which has a few openings. Harmonium presents three subscription concerts per season in the Morristown area, and also participates in other events such as First Night Morris in Morristown. Dr. Matlack’s programming provides ample opportunity for the professional, as well as the serious amateur. For music educators seeking continuing education credits, Harmonium Choral Society is a Registered New Jersey Professional Development Provider. Member singers looking for individual or small group experience may audition for solos within the programmed works or audition to join the select 20-voice Harmonium Chamber Singers. Other members who are available during the school day, evenings, or weekends, may volunteer to sing in the Harmonium Outreach Chorus, which performs assemblies in elementary and middle schools, and shows for libraries, retirement homes, etc. |
